Press Release – 6th April 2009

A glorious sunny day welcomed some of Cornwall’s most glamorous people to the St Moritz Hotel recently for a fashion extravaganza hosted by Truro’s top designer boutique Bishop Philpotts and supported by hair salon Rococo and Falmouth-based Absolute Design. Over 90 guests were treated to a display of outfits from the spring and summer collections from top designers from around the globe including Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith, Nicole Farhi, Dolce&Gabbana and Sport Max to name a few.

The day also included an auction organised and compered by ex-international footballer Keith O’Neill and featuring exclusive items such as a pair of tickets to a Manchester United game of the lucky bidder’s choice, a weekend in Dublin, and a fishing trip on the River Test.  The lot prices all contributed to the overall total and the St Moritz donated a three course lunch and champagne for all of the guests.  Alongside the in-kind support from the talented hairdressing team at Truro based Rococo and the invitations and printing from Absolute Design, the Bishop Philpotts Fashion Show raised an impressive total of approximately £7,500 for the Precious Lives Appeal.

This was the second ever collaborative Fashion Show for the Children’s Hospice South West’s Precious Lives Appeal following on from a highly successful event last year that raised £10,000.  Precious Lives has been created to fund the build of a much needed third hospice for the South West of England.  The appeal has been granted planning permission to build at Little Harbour and the Precious Lives team will be putting the project out to tender with a view to builders starting on the site early next year, for completion and opening to families by the end of 2011.  The appeal was launched to raise £5million for the build with the current total at £1.85 million.

Emma Lloyd, Children’s Hospice South West Head of Fundraising (West) says, “We are delighted to see such firm supporters of our appeal teaming up again to put on another fantastic fashion show to help raise vital funds to build a children’s hospice in Cornwall.  The luxurious St Moritz Hotel is the ideal setting in which to showcase Bishop Philpotts latest designer collection and, along with the assistance of Rococo, this stylish combination has once again proven to be a winner for our Precious Lives Appeal.”

Zoe O’Neill, owner of Bishop Philpotts adds, “The day went extremely well and was a very glamorous event which was matched by the venue.  The charity is connected to so many people throughout the county so it is very close to all of our hearts which makes all of the hard work that went into the day extremely worthwhile.  We are very pleased with all the money we raised and I would like to thank all of our clients for attending and to the St. Moritz Hotel for all of their support in making this wonderful day happen.”
